Cleaning and Caring for Your Makup Brushes

Why should we clean our makeup brushes?
  • It’s a breeding area for bacteria
  • Building up of old makeup
  • Building up of dead skin cells
  •  Building up of dirt and debris
  • Building up of oils

How to clean our makeup brushes:

  • Run the bristles under lukewarm water – the brushes are angled downward into the stream of water making sure that the water does not get under the clasp of the handle because it may damage the brush. DO NOT USE HOT WATER because the hot water may damage the bristles.
  •  Add shampoo and water – 1 teaspoon of shampoo in a ¼ cup of warm water. Stir for a minute.
  • Swirl the bristles in the mixture for approximately 2 minutes.
  •   Remove the brushes from the mixture – gently massage with your fingers to loosen the makeup and dirt.
  • Rinse the bristles under lukewarm water – keep massaging the bristles until water becomes clear.
  •  Pat the bristles with a clean towel to remove moister.
  •  Reshape the bristles by spreading the bristles apart to help get back its shape.
  • Lay the brushes on a dry towel and fluffy the bristles when it is dry.
Note: Brushes should be clean once a week because it helps maintain the brushes lifespan.

  1. Hi Mel, yes this is very important, people would not think that yes you must wash or dispose of make up brushes and pads as with each swipe it puts bacteria on the skin and this causes breakouts. futher a major no no is sharing of these items also hair brushes too due to cross contamination. apart from the applicators even the cosmetics was suggested you dispose of them after a few months as it can fester bacteria.

    1. I totally agree with you on sharing things at this day and age because of unknown or new bacteria can cause a negative result to someone's skin.
